Life Unexpected

Have I mentioned that I love ‘Life Unexpected?’ (TV commentary)

I don’t get as emotionally involved in the cancellation of shows as I used to (“Angel” in 2004 was the last one that really hurt). I just try to look at all shows as being one season long, and any more than that is a bonus.

‘Parenthood’ is hit-and-miss, but the hits are really good (TV review)

Jason Katims, whose resume includes “My So-Called Life,” “Roswell” and “Friday Night Lights,” is now on that short list of producers where you have to check out all of his products, ’cause it’s gonna be good. His latest project, “Parenthood” (9 p.m. Central Tuesdays on NBC) follows three generations of Bravermans. Two episodes in, about half of […]

Turtles Forever

‘Turtles Forever’ is Laird’s love letter to longtime fans

Movie review: The TV movie “Turtles Forever” was Peter Laird’s last big project before selling “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” to Viacom.

‘Buffy’ has comic edge, but ‘Angel’ is starting to catch up (Comic book commentary)

If someone picked up the latest issues of Dark Horse’s “Buffy” (Issue No. 32) and IDW’s “Angel”(Issue No. 30) as their introduction to post-TV events, they’d hardly recognize these worlds. The story has certainly moved forward in comic-book form.

Paul Kemp makes impressive ‘Star Wars’ debut with ‘Crosscurrent’ (Book review)

Now that 5,000 years of “Star Wars” lore have been mapped out, from the earliest days of the Sith and Jedi to the generation after Luke Skywalker, it’s not surprising that time-travel tales are starting to be told.

Early evidence points to Jacob being evil, Man in Black being good. Discuss (TV commentary)

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly has a nice chart comparing the “Lost” (8 p.m. Central Tuesdays, ABC) characters’ lives in the Island World to their lives in the Sideways World. The evidence points to Jacob being the bad guy and the Man in Black being the good guy — which is the opposite of what one would initially […]

Life Unexpected

My new favorite show is an ‘Unexpected’ pleasure (TV commentary)

I’m not surprised that “Life Unexpected” (8 p.m. Central Mondays, The CW) is good — after all, the cast is incredible and exec producer Liz Tigelaar boasts an impressive resume with “What About Brian” and other credits — but I am surprised that I love it as much as I do only five episodes into its run. […]

‘Star Wars: Darth Bane – Dynasty of Evil’ shows that the Rule of Two makes no sense whatsoever (Book review)

Ki Adi-Mundi (in “The Phantom Menace”): “The Sith have been extinct for a millennium.” Yoda (later in the same movie): “Two there are always, a master and an apprentice.”

Are TV shows getting dumber or am I getting smarter? (Commentary)

Are TV shows getting dumber or am I getting smarter? I’m not talking about TV as a whole, because obviously it’s dumber than it was 10 years ago. This is because of the influx of cheap TV — reality shows, game shows and talk shows — taking over primetime slots.

Beverly Hills 90210

On ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ DVDs, the song doesn’t remain the same (and that’s a problem)

TV commentary: The show is ruined by not having its original music. Classics are replaced by generic tracks that scream “straight-to-video movie.”
