John’s 10 favorite TV couples of all time (Commentary)

In a double dose of weak sauce, Entertainment Weekly’s writers recently chose “Friends’ “ Ross and Rachel as the greatest TV couple of all time, and readers responded by choosing some random couple from “Glee” (which, research reveals, is actually still on the air). Over at his blog, my buddy Seth Stringer upped the standards

‘The Mindy Project’ is now better than ‘New Girl’ (TV commentary)

I suppose I’ll be the first person to say this, but: “The Mindy Project” is better than “New Girl.” It has been since about January, and Tuesday’s season finale was yet another indication that Mindy and the boys have surpassed Jess and the boys in the laugh category.

John’s top 10 TV shows of 2012

Here are my top 10 TV shows of 2012: 1. “Parenthood” (Season 3-4, NBC) — I hate to have the same No. 1 two years in a row, but “Parenthood” — the only current series where having a Kleenex box nearby is a must — gives me no choice. 5 buzzworthy season finales (TV commentary)

It’s that time of year when summer movies start to steal the headlines from TV, but boob-tube fans have one last gasp, at least: The May season finales. Due to the evolving TV calendar, it’s not as jam-packed of a month as it used to be; “Parenthood,” “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Ringer” and “The

Who’s that girl? It’s Jess; and ‘New Girl’ is getting better (TV commentary)

The idea of getting a weekly dose of the girl from “(500) Days of Summer” was irresistible when “New Girl” (8 p.m. Central Tuesdays on Fox) debuted last fall, but the public seemed to think a regular blast of the “too cute, too quirky” Zooey Deschanel was too much and the backlash started to arrive.
